Description
NEURONTIN ( GABAPENTINE ) belongs to a class of medicines used to treat epilepsy and peripheral neuropathic pain (persistent pain caused by damage to the nerves). Various forms of epilepsy (seizures that are initially limited to certain parts of the brain, as the crisis then spread or not to other parts of the brain). Your doctor treating you or your child 6 years of age or older will prescribe NEURONTIN to help treat epilepsy when current treatment does not completely control the disease. You or your child 6 years of age or older will need to take NEURONTIN in combination with current treatment, unless otherwise specified. NEURONTIN can also be used alone to treat adults and children over 12 years old.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE TAKING NEURONTIN 300 mg?
If you are allergic (hypersensitive)NEURONTIN or any of the other ingredients of this medicine. Post-marketing abuse or dependence has been reported with gabapentin. Tell your doctor if you have a history of abuse or dependence. A small number of people being treated with anti-epileptics such as NEURONTIN have had thoughts of harming or killing themselves. If such thoughts were to appear at any time, contact your doctor immediately. A small number of people taking NEURONTIN develop allergic reactions or potentially serious skin reactions, which can progress to more serious problems if left untreated. You should know the symptoms to look out for while taking NEURONTIN.
Contact your doctor immediately if you have any of the following symptoms after taking this medicine, as they can be serious. If you experience muscle weakness, tenderness or pain, and in particular, if at the same time you feel unwell or have a fever, this may be caused by abnormal muscle breakdown which can be life threatening and lead to kidney problems. You may also have discoloration of the urine and a change in blood test results (in particular, an increase in creatine phosphokinase in the blood). If you experience any of these signs or symptoms, contact your doctor immediate.

Recommended dose for the treatment of epilepsy:
Adults and adolescents
Take the number of capsules prescribed by your doctor. Your doctor will usually increase your dose gradually. The initial dose will generally be between 300 mg and 900 mg per day. Then the dose may be increased as prescribed by your doctor up to a maximum dose of NEURONTIN. per day, and your doctor will tell you to take it in 3 divided doses, i.e. one dose in the morning, one dose in the morning, one dose dose in the afternoon and one dose in the evening.
Children from 6 years old
The dose to be given to your child will be determined by your doctor as it is calculated based on your child’s weight. Treatment is started with a low dose which will be gradually increased over a period of about 3 days. The usual dose for controlling epilepsy is 25-35 mg / kg / day. It is usually given in 3 divided doses with the capsule (s) taken every day, usually once in the morning, once in the afternoon and once in the evening.
