Description
Zoplicon 7.5 mg is a sleep aid from the group of benzodiazepine-like active ingredients. For the short-term treatment of sleep disorders in adults. Do not use it long term. The duration of treatment should be as short as possible because the risk of addiction increases the longer the treatment is.
Zopiclone-ratiopharm must not be taken
- if you are allergic to zopiclone or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6),
- with pathological muscle weakness (myasthenia gravis),
- in severe respiratory disorders,
- if the breathing function is frequently interrupted during sleep (severe sleep apnea syndrome),
- if you have severe liver damage (due to the risk of developing a brain disease)..
Warnings and Precautions
Before starting treatment with it, the causes of the sleep disorder should be clarified and these should first be treated.
If there is no improvement in the sleep disorder after 7-14 days of treatment with it, your doctor will carry out further tests to clarify the causes of the sleep disorder.
Tolerance development
Repeated use of sleeping pills for a few weeks can lead to a loss of effectiveness (tolerance). With zopiclone, however, this effect is not noticeable if the treatment period is less than 4 weeks.
Dependence
The use of zopiclone can lead to the development of abuse and / or physical and emotional dependence. The risk of dependence increases with dose and duration of treatment, and is greater if zopiclone is used for more than 4 weeks. The risk of abuse and dependence is greater in patients with a mental illness and / or a history of alcohol, drug, or medication abuse. Tell your doctor if you have or have ever suffered from any mental illness, or if you have abused or used alcohol, drugs or medication, or if you are or have been dependent on them.
If physical addiction develops, suddenly stopping treatment will be accompanied by withdrawal symptoms. These can manifest themselves in headache, palpitations or racing heart, muscle pain, extraordinary fear, states of tension, inner restlessness, increased urge to move, nightmares, confusion and irritability. In severe cases, the following symptoms may also occur: loss of reality, personality disorders, hypersensitivity to light, noise and physical contact, numbness and tingling sensation in the arms and legs, accelerated heartbeat (tachycardia), delirium and hallucinations. In very rare cases, epileptic fits can occur.
Withdrawal symptoms
Even if a shorter treatment is stopped suddenly, so-called withdrawal symptoms may occur temporarily, whereby the symptoms that led to the treatment may reappear in an exacerbated form. Changes in mood, anxiety and restlessness are possible accompanying reactions.
Since the risk of withdrawal or withdrawal phenomena is higher after suddenly stopping therapy, especially after prolonged treatment, it is recommended to end treatment by gradually reducing the dose.
